With temps in the 60’s and a light fog burning off in the early morning air the Old Home Day Lundgren 5K race had 348 participants complete the course this morning. As the runners pass through the timing gate near the Grange 44 on Mammoth Road they enter a tight line down to a point where Lancer Timing takes the barcode from the tag providing instant results courtesy Lancer Timing.

Friday night was a fabulous time - slightly damp - but fabulous! The fireworks were fantastic! “The best I’ve seen in 11 years of coming to the fireworks!” said one Mom.
Many people watched from their cars and enjoyed a spectacular show. Others preferred to stand in the rain and ooh and aah! Even if you didn’t see the fireworks, we’re betting that many Londonderry residents heard them!
Unfortunately the “Souled Out” band was unable to perform due to weather conditions. They have given us many great shows in the past and we thank them for coming to play for us!
Here is a group of folks ready to have some fun!

These four cool cats with hats were having a blast!

Ann Gaffney and son Neil came prepared for the weather!

These girls were having fun with a balloon.

7:30 Update Souled out has left the building.
Due to the lighting strikes just 2 miles away they were unable to power up the equipment after a two hour setup. They broke down and departed the stage in front of the Londonderry High School.
The Fire works will start at 8:35 on the dot. They are not canceled due to Rain. View them from your home, or your car. The parking Lots at the high school are open in front of the Gym, or park on “the plato” located to the north side of the building. This lot would be closest to the fireworks and is normally closed. It is safe this year to park there as the firework launch area is back further.
The school lobby is open for those that want to wait inside and then exit when the fireworks start (should it be safe to do so.)

The evening sun beamed down on close to 200 seniors and guests at the opening festivities of Old Home Day on Wednesday. It was the perfect start to the town’s annual five-day event, which ends Sunday, Aug. 17.
Members of the Londonderry Lions Club got a head start on their barbecue skills as they grilled up hot dogs and hamburgers for the hungry crowd. The Lions will be back manning the grills on Saturday during the busiest day of festivities.
While 182 seniors signed up for the free barbecue and organizers tried their best to plan for the amount of food, the potato salad was scooped up quickly, leaving some disappointed. To make up for it, free treats were offered when the ice cream truck pulled up. This is the second year the truck visited the Lions Pavilion, and it was again a big hit.

Using apple trees as cover, Revolutionary War soldiers turned a grassy field off Pillsbury Road into a battlefield yesterday.
The reenactment, which was held next to the Historical Society’s blacksmith shop, museum and barn, was part of Londonderry’s 108th Old Home Day celebration yesterday.

Londonderry’s observance of its 108th consecutive Old Home Day dates back to the tradition begun by Gov. Frank Rollins in the late 19th century. As reported in the archives of the Library of Congress, Gov. Rollins proclaimed in 1897, “I wish that in the ear of every son and daughter of New Hampshire, in the summer days, might be heard whispered the persuasive words: “Come back, come back!” Do you not hear the call? What has become of the old home where you were born? Do you not remember it — the old farm back among the hills, with its rambling buildings, its well sweep casting its long shadows, the row of stiff poplar trees, the lilacs and the willows?”
